Containerized BESS buying checklist
Twelve questions to answer before ordering a containerized battery storage system — from usable energy and power, through certifications and grid code, to logistics and service.
This checklist is a data-gathering tool, not a design. For every item, record the source and confirmation date. If the manufacturer does not state something, write “not specified” — do not guess.
Technical data to confirm
Compare the same parameters under the same conditions. Pay particular attention to continuous versus rated power, usable versus nominal energy, and the temperature at which ratings are stated.
- Nominal and usable energy (kWh), depth of discharge
- Continuous and surge AC power (kW), test conditions
- AC voltage, frequency and phase; DC range
- Efficiency, operating temperature, IP rating, dimensions and weight
- Battery chemistry, cycles, warranty and warranty conditions
Compliance and safety
Certificates must match the market and application. A datasheet mention is not enough — request the documents and check the scope.
- CE, EPR/BDO, UN38.3 and battery certificates (e.g. IEC 62619 where applicable)
- Grid code, anti-islanding protection, declarations of conformity
- Suppression system, detection, ventilation and fire review
- Installation manual, service and spare parts
Commercial and project terms
Agree the scope of supply, transport, unloading, commissioning, training, service and delay penalties. State who is responsible for design, permits and interconnection.

Buyer questions
Where should data collection start?
Start with the load profile and project goal. Only then compare products and parameters. Without a load profile, power and energy cannot be sized.
Can I order a BESS online?
Products with a price and availability status can be ordered online, but a containerized BESS still requires contact about transport, commissioning and design. The shop sells hardware; design and installation are quoted by the scalevolt.pl/contact team.
