Grid-forming battery storage: what it changes and what it does not guarantee
Grid-forming (VSG) may help maintain voltage and frequency and support islanded operation, but it does not replace a grid-code study, protection design and project engineering. Here is what to ask the manufacturer and grid operator.
In the catalogue, only DG2000 2508 kWh explicitly claims grid-forming (VSG) technology. DG1000 1672 kWh states an 80 ms grid-to-island transition but does not claim grid-forming. Do not treat these terms as synonyms.
What grid-forming does
A grid-forming inverter can establish a voltage and frequency reference instead of only following the grid. In a microgrid this may enable islanded operation and coordination with other sources. Actual capability depends on controls, settings, short-circuit strength and switching strategy.
What grid-forming does not guarantee
A grid-forming claim does not confirm grid-code compliance, black start, parallel operation, protection selectivity or dynamic performance in a specific project. All of that requires a model, study and approvals.

Is grid-forming enough for islanded operation?
No. You need a microgrid design, power balance, protection, black-start strategy and approvals. Grid-forming is one component, not the whole answer.
